Hydro Excavation And Cold Weather

Hydro Excavation And Cold Weather

Digging for pipes, posts, signs, and poles in cold weather is more difficult than digging in normal weather.

Digging for pipes, posts, signs, and poles in cold weather is more difficult than digging in normal weather. The ground is frozen and a lot harder than usual. Earlier methods for digging in cold weather involved thawing the frozen soil first. Coal and wood were then used to thaw the ground before a backhoe was used to excavate. Manual digging was also likely required after the soil was softened. Needless to say, this process took a lot of time (and money).

Fortunately, hydro excavation is able to solve these problems. Our hydro excavation trucks are equipped with heaters that allow the water to navigate through frozen earth and ground frost. Using hydro excavation for cold weather digging considerably reduces labor and material costs.
